Flirtatious Groups of Men

Women traveling alone have reported that men, sometimes in groups, have harassed them. One such occurrence occurred at Parque de Maria Luisa. They can become aggressive, even in broad daylight with other people around. Fortunately, the police in Sevilla have been very helpful and take complaints seriously. Other women have also reported that this may happen with taxi cab drivers.

Pickpockets

As in any major city in Spain, pickpockets do operate in Sevilla. They may operate under the guise of selling you flowers, but you should not stop for these people. They are expert pickpockets and while you are accepting the flowers, they will have accomplices picking your bag or pocket. They’ve been known to hang out outside cathedrals and the Plaza de Espana.

Palm Readers

Do not accept the little bush branches, often rosemary, that women hand out near the cathedral. They will then want to read your palm, after which they will expect money. It is best to ignore these women or offer a firm no. They do not tend to become aggressive, but they can be persistent.

Know Your Surroundings

It is easy to get lost in Sevilla, especially at night. Allow yourself a day or an afternoon just to get your bearings around the city, as most of the roads don’t have names posted.

Don’t Trust the Weather

Daytime is often warm, but even summer nights can become quite cold. Be prepared for rain, even when it is warm outside in the summer. Weather can change quickly and without warning.
