Transportation in Hong Kong To/From Macao
Hong Kong is an autonomous territory on the eastern side of the Pearl River Delta that faces the city of Macao in the west. The two cities are connected by ferry, letting people go to and from both cities without much inconvenience.
Ferry
A trip to Macau offers a nice break from the constant crowds and traffic of Hong Kong. There are about three or four ferries that ply the route between the two cities, and each of them leaves almost every hour. These ferries keep crossing even until the early hours of dawn. If you go to the boat station, you’ll find all the available ferries you can take. It’s important to remember that they don’t all leave at the same time, so you’ll to have to check out which one will fit your schedule.
There are two piers, one at the Hong Kong Island near the International Port and the other in Kowloon Island. You’ll have to know which island in Hong Kong you’re going to so that you can identify which pier is nearest. However, you won’t have to worry too much, since both piers have access to taxis that will take you to each. The ferry trip itself takes about an hour. The Victoria Harbor is the body of water between these cities, and it can get really rough at times. The best advice for tourists is to take some medication if you’re prone to getting seasick. If you get a first class ticket, you will also have the convenience of being served a great meal and coffee. However, all of the ferry boats are air conditioned and have a snack bar inside for guests to buy food.
By far the best way to get from Hong Kong to Macau is by way of one of the fast ferries. The Turbojet provides a fast, one hour commute between the two cities. The most affordable fare is the economy ticket, with prices also dropping during the weekdays.
