Do you travel with your pets? Take them along on road trips, or even on flights? More and more people are taking their pets with them on vacation these days, for companionship, fun, or just because it’s easier than finding a pet sitter.
Think pet travel is just a passing fad, like glamping (glamorous camping) or staycations? Think again. Over the last decade, destinations like Monterey, California; Cape Cod, Massachusetts; and St. Augustine, Florida, have earned a reputation as great places to vacation with dogs. More hotels are allowing pets, and some even provide lender pets for guests (the Fairmont Copley Plaza in Boston has a dog you can walk and many Kimpton Hotels will bring a pet goldfish to your room). A new airline just for pets debuted this year. And last year, when we polled readers about allowing pets on flights, SmarterTravel readers voted in favor of furry friends.
So today I’m hoping you’ll jump in and share your personal pet travel expertise with me and with other readers. What are your favorite destinations? What secrets do you have for making traveling with dogs, cats, or other animals easier? And for you, what’s the best part of going places with your pets?
