TSA Agent Reportedly Shames 15-Year Old Girl Over Outfit

It seems like the TSA has taken on the role of “fashion police” as well as airline security. Editor-in-chief of Make magazine, Mark Frauenfelder, wrote an angry blog post alleging that a TSA officer at LAX “humiliated and shamed” his 15-year-old daughter over what she was wearing while traveling.

Frauenfelder says that his daughter texted him after she was upset by a TSA agent on her trip through the airport. Frauenfelder claims that his daughter told him that a TSA agent (who was checking IDs in the security line) was “glaring at her and mumbling. She said, ‘Excuse me?’ and he said, ‘You’re only 15, COVER YOURSELF!’ in a hostile tone. She said she was shaken up by his abusive manner.”

Frauenfelder reports that he met with the TSA at LAX about the incident, and that they are investigating.

If you’re interested, you can see a picture of the non-scandalous outfit that his daughter was wearing, here. Although, it shouldn’t matter what the outfit looks like—it’s not the TSA’s job to police that. We’d hope that officers would be more focused on catching terrorists than on what passengers are wearing. (Leave the outfit-policing to the airlines, who will happily kick flyers off for sporting low-cut shirts or saggy pants.)

Do you think the TSA agent had the right to say anything to the teenager? Tell us why or why not in the comments.
