Shopping in Venice: Market and Supermarkets

There are countless markets and supermarkets throughout Venice that offer shopping opportunities for food, souvenirs, and many other items. It’s important to understand the various tips in order to know more about how to handle yourself throughout the city.

What You Need to Know About Visiting the Local Markets

Most of the local markets deal in cash. It’s cheaper to go to the markets to get food than to dine out. If purchasing multiple items, it’s perfectly acceptable to haggle for a better price.

Top Tips for Entering a Supermarket

Supermarkets are found throughout Venice and offer a convenient and affordable way to get food. This includes Billa and COOP. Not all of the employees speak English, so bring a dictionary if necessary. Water and yogurt are going to be more affordable here.

Bring your own bag for groceries. Also, do not shop for fruit with your bare hands. Instead, use plastic gloves which are generally provided. If these are not easy to locate, ask one of the workers for the fruit you want.
