Verona Things To Do – Attractions & Must See

Romeo and Juliet aren’t the only people who love Verona. Travelers come here to be in the heart of one of Italy’s most picturesque cities.

Verona Things To Do

It may be famous as the setting for two of most star-crossed lovers in history, but Verona is so much more. Visitors will find dozens of wonderful things to do in a this small city. From ancient bridges to modern art museums, this is a city that hums with life.

The River

Walking along the River Aidge is a great way to get exercise and see the entire city. Cross the Ponte Pietra bridge on foot where the bridge has been standing since Roman times.

Roman Influence

The Romans left their mark everywhere here. You’ll find many remnants of the walls they put up to help keep the city safe from invaders. Verona has one of the best preserved Roman theaters in the entire country. You can visit the theater on your own or wait for one of many operas that are given during the summer opera festival. Partially housed in an ancient monastery, the adjacent archeological museum recounts the history of the area.

The Piazzas

Another noteworthy part of the city is the Piazza Bra. Adjacent to the main train station, it is famous as the place where Garibaldi made one of his speeches. It contains a gorgeous arch and many places to enjoy lunch. Walking around will bring you to the Piazza della Erbe where you’ll find a fresh market selling local produce. Don’t forget to look up so you can see the frescoes on the Casa Mazzanti. The buildings were the tallest in Verona at the time and housed some of the city’s richest citizens. The Old Castle of Castelvecchio is another glorious site right nearby with a private bridge that allowed lords and ladies to enter as they pleased. Built in the 13th century, today it houses many works of art by some of the most renowned Italian renaissance artists.
