Why Is Glenn Beck Mad at American Airlines?

Conservative talk show host Glenn Beck claims that an American Airlines staff member deemed him a “security risk” and denied him boarding. Oh, wait—my mistake! That’s what happened to a teenager with Down syndrome, whose family was kicked off an American flight last weekend during an incident that likely qualifies as a civil rights violation. Glenn Beck’s complaint is much more serious: An American flight attendant acted like a big meanie!  

Beck told his listeners that the attendant in question “fawned over” everyone on the plane but treated Beck as a “subhuman.” According to The Huffington Post, Beck said, “When [the flight attendant] delivered a soda, he slammed it down so hard, I hesitated to even open the can for fear that it would spray all over other passengers in the cabin. By the way, the other passengers, nobody else had to open their can. He opened it and poured it for them.” The talk show host vowed to never fly with American again.

Were Beck’s delicate hands harmed as he struggled to twist the aluminum tab?  He doesn’t divulge, but he does offer a compelling explanation for the horrific incident: “I want to personally thank American Airlines for bringing to my attention that they don’t mean ‘American Airlines.’ They mean ‘Liberal American Airlines’ apparently.” Maybe that whole legacy airline thing is just a front for a political group of passive-aggressive progressives. I’ll look into it as soon as Beck stops trying to sell us apocalypse shelters and gold bullion.

In response to Beck’s complaints, a spokesperson from American says the airline is investigating the issue. I’ll take that as a polite dismissal.

Overall, Beck seems to think he was treated poorly because of his political views. But Alec Baldwin, a publicly active left-winger, also had a negative experience on an American flight. (Remember the “Words with Friends” debacle?) Air travel is often unpleasant or inconvenient, no matter what your political affiliation. Get over it, Glenn.
