I love this time of year, when the days grow longer, the flowers begin to bloom, and online travel consolidators publish their lists of the cheapest and/or most popular summer destinations. First up: CheapTicket’s summer Cheapometer.
The Cheapometer is based on percentage of savings between the lowest summer rate and the highest non-summer rate at three-star hotels. The flaw in this system is that places that are popular in winter and avoided in the summer (often for a good reason—I’m looking at you, 104-degrees-in-the-summer Phoenix) are going to look like the deal of the century. But the list mixes up destinations well enough to stay interesting.
The list is broken up by month and has information about average price and percentage of savings. You can read the full list online, but here’s a sampling of destinations you’ll find:
- Ireland
- New Orleans
- Germany
- Las Vegas
- Phoenix
- Atlanta (which was one of my recent summer bargain destination picks)
- Orlando
- Hawaii (another summer bargain destination pick)
